A window on the Internet
Marvin Windows is using an unusual medium to advertise its fiberglass windows: humorous videos on the company’s website.

Fiberglass Goat Stolen

Business owners in Hendersonville say someone stole a fiberglass goat from a downtown art installation. The goat, called “Miss Connie Mara,” disappeared sometime last week. It was part of an art display called “Kidding Around” that includes 15 painted fiberglass goats. “Miss Connie Mara” is worth over a thousand dollars. It is actually the second goat to be taken from downtown. Police caught the thieves who took the first one at a traffic light with the art in the back of their car. The artist who painted that goat is touching it up so it can be returned to the street. People in Hendersonville say they hope “Miss Connie Mara” has the same fate.

Boat Building by the Stitch & Glue Method

Jul 9th, 2008

Stitch and glue building is the name given to boat building using plywood sheets held together by copper wire, string, cable ties, or some other method. The joint is then glassed over – on larger boats the copper wire may be left in, but on smaller craft it is usually cut out. An epoxy fillet joint is usually made on the inside of the joint on smaller boats, and the outside is taped over with fiberglass tape. On larger boats both sides of the joint are usually coated with fiberglass tape epoxied over the joint. The method provides for a very strong joint without the need to cut chine logs or other difficult to shape rabbets.

Q: I have a wood deck that I have stained twice in six years with semi-transparent stain. The second time was a disaster, and the stain is peeling and chipping. Both times I cleaned and power washed the deck before staining. I can’t remember the brand of stain I used. What could cause this, and do I need to strip the deck before staining again?
