Engineered wood materials reinforced with glassfiber nonwoven

JM, a leading manufacturer and marketer of premium-quality products for building and special applications, launches its StabilStrand® glass fiber nonwoven family at ZOW 2009 show.

Fiberglass Nonwoven Description:

StabilStrand® is a glass fiber nonwoven impregnated with a b-stage resin system for engineered woods and laminates. The resinated glass fiber nonwoven mat is applied to the engineered wood material and cured under heat and pressure. This can be done either during the production of the wood fiber substrate or in a separate off-line processing step directly onto the finished wood fiber board. The resin of the glass fiber nonwoven couples with the wood fibers, which leads to a homogeneous fiber composite. The glass fiber is chemically bonded with the resin – unlike an adhesive bonded sandwich structure.

StabilStrand® product recipes are tailor-made for particle board, MDF, HDF, OSB, plywood boards and laminates and proven for different standard press processing.

StabilStrand® melamine glass fiber nonwovens significantly improve the properties of engineered woods and laminates.

  1. Flexural strength increased by more than 50 percent,
  2. E-modulus increased by more than 50 percent,
  3. Laminate floorings achieve impact values of above 25 N in small ball impact tests and 2000 mm in large ball falling tests,
  4. In common fire tests special types of StabilStrand® have proven F30 compliance with out any problems.

Other individual features:

  • Abrasion resistance,
  • Scratch resistance,
  • Antistatic.

In addition, StabilStrand® products pressed onto particle or MDF boards are ideally suited for direct printing – indirect printing and digital printing – as well as for powder coating.
