Winnebago closed Iowa fiberglass factory
Jun 13th, 2009 | By admin | Category: Latest Fiberglass NewsNEW YORK — Winnebago Industries Inc. said Thursday that it has been forced to close a fiberglass factory in Hampton, Iowa, because of lower demand for its motor homes and that it would continue to evaluate its production capacity.
The factory to be closed makes fiberglass components for the company’s motor homes.
Loss:
- 40 salaried and hourly jobs;
- A non-cash impairment charge of $1.4 million to $2.4 million;
- Additional costs for the closure amount to $600,000;
- Winnebago shares fell 9 cents to $7.39 midday Thursday.
“Unfortunately, it has become necessary to decrease our manufacturing footprint to reduce overhead expenses,” Chief Executive Bob Olson said in a statement. “It is particularly difficult to lose valued employees, however, the wholesale and retail market for the company’s motor homes continues to be very challenging and it is important to downsize to market demand.”
Production will be shifted to Winnebago’s Forest City plant during the fourth quarter.
